Internships and Work Placements

The Career Service at the University of Edinburgh connects students with internships worldwide. This experience enhances practical skills among students. Edinburgh’s location enhances access to industries in finance, tech, and public policy.

• Edinburgh University Summer Internships: The “Employ.ed on Campus” programme offers paid summer internships. This internship is available for undergraduate students to get paid work experience.
• Edinburgh University Internship programmes: A wide range of paid and credited internships across university departments and partner organisations.
• Global Internships: Partnerships with organisations for summer placements, helping students gain real-world exposure.
• Edinburgh Award: A certification programme that recognises extracurricular and work experiences, boosting CVs for graduate applications. 

Students can secure paid roles through the university’s internal platforms. Recent internship programmes have opened in February for the summer cycle. 

Exchange and Study Abroad Programmes

• International Exchange: It is suitable for students attending partner universities outside of Europe.
• European Exchange: For students enrolled at European universities that have an exchange partnership with the University of Edinburgh.
• Study Abroad Programme: For students from non-partner universities who wish to spend a semester or year at the University of  Edinburgh.
• Erasmus+ Traineeships: It offers a short 2-3 month research placement at the University of Edinburgh.

Research and Innovation Opportunities 

The University of Edinburgh presents the Research and Innovation Strategy 2030. It focuses on data and AI for the public good, ensuring that advanced technologies are both useful and responsible. Edinburgh Innovations and ERI are the dedicated support centres. It helps connect researchers with businesses and provides guidance for collaboration and innovation. 

Student Societies and Leadership Roles

The Edinburgh University Students’ Association manages over 350 student societies. There are over 70 sports clubs that offer students the opportunity to stay active. There are several types of student societies, including academic and professional, as well as cultural and international. 

Students can take on various leadership roles at student societies and clubs. They can demonstrate initiative with roles like the president, vice president and secretary. The university also conducts a Graduate Leader Programme. This programme provides placement opportunities to recent graduates to build leadership skills.
